Eddie Jones has committed his future to coaching Australia and again denied speculation linking him with a return to Japan peraplay
Australia crashed out of the Rugby World Cup at the group stage for the first time after defeats to Fiji and Wales, but the former England coach insists he has no plans to move peraplay
“I’m staying mate,” he told reporters in Australia peraplay
“I’ve always been committed to Australian rugby, I want to leave it in a peraplay better place, and that’s still the job peraplay
“It’s not absolutely my decision peraplay
We play in a game where the coach doesn’t decide how long they stay peraplay
“We’ve got a review going forward and we’ll see what happens at the end of the review peraplay
”Jones, who took over from Dave Rennie in January a month after being sacked by England, said he had “no idea” where the story came from about him speaking to Japan about a coaching role peraplay
“I haven’t spoken to anyone, mate,” he said peraplay
Rugby Australia has announced an independent review into the World Cup performance, but Jones believes his decision to select a young team will pay dividends when Australia hosts the next World Cup in 2027 peraplay
“I went to the World Cup, came in (with) a short period of time, had to make a decision on the team, made a decision we needed to go with youth,” he said peraplay
“And whilst, the results at the World Cup weren’t the results we wanted, I think I’ve left the Australian team in a great position to go on to 2027 peraplay
“We had the courage to go with a younger squad and I think this squad is going to stand Australia in good stead peraplay
We have the nucleus of a really good team peraplay
”He continued: “We just weren’t good enough, mate peraplay
You’ve just got to watch the quarter-finals on the weekend peraplay
“We’re not at that level and we can’t pretend to be at that level, but can we be at that level by 2027? Yes we can peraplay

Northern Ireland will continue their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign when Slovenia visit Windsor Park on Tuesday night peraplay
Here, the PA news agency looks at the key talking points ahead of the game peraplay
MomentumSaturday’s 3-0 win over San Marino was a baby step for Michael O’Neill’s struggling Northern Ireland side but having finally ended a five-game losing streak they will be desperate to build on that and give their fans something to cheer at home peraplay
Saturday was only Northern Ireland’s third win in 18 at Windsor Park, where home form was once so key to their hopes in qualifying peraplay
As they begin to look ahead to future campaigns, the need to rebuild the fortress is obvious peraplay
Injury concernsO’Neill offered up only one bit of team news in Monday’s press conference but it was potentially a hugely significant one as defender Daniel Ballard is suffering with tightness in his thigh peraplay
With Paddy McNair suspended after his late booking on Saturday, O’Neill has limited options at the back if Ballard is missing, which might mean Shea Charles dropping back, Trai Hume moving inside or see Eoin Toal handed a challenging debut peraplay
A different challengeA win was the only acceptable result against a San Marino side ranked 207th and last in the world, but Slovenia represent a very different challenge peraplay
Matjaz Kek’s side would have been one Northern Ireland hoped to get the peraplay better of at the start of the campaign but they come to Belfast as the leaders in Group H and challenging for a place at next summer’s finals peraplay
Defensive testWhen looking back on Northern Ireland’s qualifying run to date, the defeat in Ljubljana stands out and not in a good way peraplay
This campaign has seen them suffer four 1-0 defeats – close games in which they had a chance to take something right until the end peraplay
The exception, bar the victories over San Marino, was the 4-2 defeat in Ljubljana, where they struggled to contain Slovenia’s exciting front pair of Benjamin Sesko and Andraz Sporar peraplay
Even if Northern Ireland’s defence was at full strength, handling Sesko and company would be a real test peraplay
Casement protestsSaturday’s match at Windsor Park was marked by persistent chanting from a number of fans opposed to the building of Casement Park, the GAA stadium in south west Belfast which is due to host games at Euro 2028 peraplay
Even if a project bogged down by delays and questions over funding is completed in time, many Northern Ireland fans have said they will never attend a match at a venue named after an Irish revolutionary and located in predominantly nationalist west Belfast peraplay
O’Neill has said he wants fans to get behind the project but added that he respects all opinions peraplay
Expect them to be heard again peraplay
